The Activities of the Federal Government in financing, aiding and relieving certain classes of the population have become so numerous, so varied and so extensive, as well as so vast in total amount, that the average person is utterly confused by the whole program.
No doubt, intelligent people fully realize that the Government has long since passed the point where it meets its outgo with any form of income. In other words, it is operating on an enormous deficit, and one that has few parallels, absolutely or relatively, in history. (pg. 22)
